Courage

When a cook is cooking, the cook knows the importance of salt. Salt really makes a big difference. So if the cook decides to go, “Well, I know salt is going to make it taste good so let me add a handful, handful. Handful.” Then it won’t taste good.

In life, every day is a painting. And the painting isn’t about how much color you put on there. It is just the right amount in the right places that make that painting come alive. Just that pinch of salt at the right time, and the right dish, and it makes the flavors come alive.

The courage, the love, the admiration, the understanding - we all have. And we have the amount that is needed. Now what we have to learn is to paint properly with it.

Is anger all bad? Sometimes you can’t open that bottle, you get a little angry, you put a little extra bit in and the next thing you know, the top comes off.

There is that one story, I don’t know how true it is, but on one of the space modules, an air conditioner was broken so they were trying to fix it. And they couldn’t fix it up there, so they called down to the earth and said, “You know, this module is broken - fix it,” so the engineer was working on it, working on it - he couldn’t fix it down here, either.

So in his frustration and in his anger, he kicked it. And when he did, it started working. So he called up and said to the guy up there - he said, “Kick it! That’s all. I kicked it here and it started working.” So he kicked it up there and it started working, too.

But that anger out of bounds - a little too much - and it doesn’t taste right. Maybe a little bit, okay. A little bit too much, and it doesn’t taste right. You love somebody and you’re constantly next to them, “I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you.” I mean, right down to the point where you drive that person completely insane! It’s like, “Go away!”

Everything done in proportions. And every dish comes out great. Done in proportions. And it paints a beautiful scenario, it paints a beautiful painting. And never, ever feel that to paint the painting that you’re capable of painting every day - that you’re missing anything. Anything. You have all the ingredients. All the ingredients. That’s how you were created.

There’s a lot of technology that has gone into creating you. And it’s for something. That you can enjoy. That you can be happy. That you can be sad. But that’s not what you’re geared for. You’re geared to be happy. That’s when it feels good.

In your life, use that expression, and the courage, you have. You absolutely have.
